Product Reviews
Setting up is straight forward. The one deviation I made was with the middle attachment to the back roof rack. I found to get the ridge line from sagging, I moved that middle attachment point to the forward roof rack. Just a small cord was used. The provided five stakes are bomb proof. The guy lines are not an obstacle course. Coming and going is from the ‘front’, pole end. The side are lower and deflect a good amount of wind. This tarp creates and wonderful space. I really like the small ‘eyebrow’ in front of the pole. It adds to the feeling of being sheltered and also deflects some of the wind. I speak of the wind because it was windy when I set it up.
Lastly, I have a pickup with cap. Raising the windowed part of the back pushes into the tarp. This could wear fast in windy conditions. I bought two swimming noodles and a dowel to fit down the centre of the noodles. Cut all to just wider that the back and attached to the handles on each side with bungee. Now only soft spongy areas touch the tarp. With this back glass in the upright position is how I tensioned the tarp.
- This is a sort of pro and possible con. The pole is heavy duty. Internally it has bungee line. But at the joints themselves it is wire. This shows extra care has been considered. The wire will not wear from use through disassembly. Not having seen this before, I appreciate the extra thought that went into this. The wire should last a good deal longer than if it were just bungee cord. But it does add more connections that could fail. I may be a bit too picky here. But again it shows this tarp is not just a quick knock-off.
